My mother went on vacation to Costa Rica last month, and when she came back she told me her tale or woe.  She had forgotten the word for “yesterday” from her high school Spanish days.  In her frustrated attempt to explain to the tour guide that she had already purchased her ticket yesterday, she kept repeating the word mañana, which means “tomorrow.”  The tour guide was confused, and my mother was confused.  All because of a simple breakdown in communication.
